who could i contact to find a wild population of sompthing?

Question by keo: who could i contact to find a wild population of sompthing?
I live on Oahu Hawaii, I’m looking for a specific species of fresh water crustation that is listed as livening in Hawaii, however aside from the sentence that the species can be found here there’s no other information, so does anyone know who I would contact to find out more information?

I was thinking maybe the state department of agriculture as they deal with the import and export of animals in the state.

Specifically I’m looking for the location of a wild population of triops longicaudatus which is considered a pest in Hawaii and is no ware near being endangered, so there shouldn’t be any reason collecting them would be illegal except maybe being on private property. But as stated before I can’t find any information other them there here,

I’ve already asked around my collage professors in the science department and no one had any information.

Try contacting the state fish commission or the Dept. of Environmental Protection. Alternatively, ask at a natural history museum.

30gallon!?
I’m not sure you would be able to see them very well.
Don’t fill the water up too high.

All you need to breed them is to have sand at the bottom of the tank (which you have)
and they will begin laying eggs when they are 2-3weeks old

Yes they eat algae
here is a list of things you can feed triops:

Yes, you can use any type of lamp for them, (or sunlight.)

If the lid has holes in it, you can put it on. But if you leave it off they won’t jump out.
So it’s up to you :)

You only have to clean the tank if it gets Really dirty.
Just carefully tip some of the water out, and fill it up again.

Hint: I always use boiled water, it works just fine.

this “shrimp” is a shrimp who eats its own kids, and it likes to eat carrots. The name people usually calls this is Aquasaurs.

Q&A: do you know where i can find triops for free?

Question by emily: do you know where i can find triops for free?
do you know where you can find triops for free? Also can you tell me all you know about triops?

Answer by tigris
first you have to tell us where you live. If you live in e.g. Britain, Triops is an endangered species, so you won’t be able to find it, and if you find it you should not collect it.
As eggs are cheap to buy, it will be much easier to buy than to go and find them. Go and do a job for somebody for an hour and you will have earned the money to buy some, if you are looking for some you probably will have to spend way more time than an hour…

As you can just type triops into google and it will come up with lot of websites and info, I don’t quite see why I should do that for you. You can also look up Notostrata or tadpole shrimp, e.g. on Wikipedia.
