how long does it take for sea monkeys to grow?

Question by samfjmj 345121mmdmc3kekcjch3efy3: how long does it take for sea monkeys to grow?
i had sea monkeys and its been 2 weeks since i put them in and all i see is little things swimming around about the size of a millimeter or a half of a millimeter so how long will it take to get full grown. is it a glitch and they wont grow. I heard that they can live 2 years so maybe it takes longer to grow then triops because they only live for 2 weeks or 3 weeks but they grow fast but maybe since the sea monkeys live for 2 years they take a wile to grow. so how long does it take

How can you get triops to live long?

Question by Vegan4life nomer: How can you get triops to live long?
The only time I had triops was a while ago and it was a little kit with no filter and never called for water changes, so ti si pretty obviouse why they did not live long!
What temp water do they like?
How big to they get if allowed enough room to grow?
How many could you have per gallon?
Do they need a heater?
Oh wow black cat! I thought maybe because of the kits, with no filter and the tank cycling with them in it might cause an early death, I never knew they lives such a short life. Interesting info!

What do you consider long? They only have a life span of about 8 weeks/2 months. But if they lived less than that, some water changes might have helped, plus a larger tank that comes with the kits. To keep them any length of time, you need to collect the eggs and dry them like would happen in their natural habitat. They have a very short life cycle like brine shrimp because the water where they live dries up each year.

What temp water do they like? Anything from low 70s to mid 80.

How big to they get if allowed enough room to grow? This will depend on the kind you get in your kit. Most will get 2-3 inches, but some kinds can up to 4 inches.

How many could you have per gallon? No more than 2, less would be better.

Do they need a heater? That depends on the temperature of the room where you keep them, but generally ir would be a good idea.

“In the lab, T. longicaudatus has a maximum lifespan of about 50 days and T. cancriformis a maximum lifespan of about 90 days, with some individuals beginning to die off as soon as two weeks after hatching.”

Fry can take longer than that to grow. Make sure they are getting fed enough protein too. With every batch of fry you have to expect a few unlucky ones..

How long can triops survive out of water. I need to scoop them out of the water and put them in a clean cup.?

Question by Intelligence: How long can triops survive out of water. I need to scoop them out of the water and put them in a clean cup.?
The water has turned kind out green so I have to scoop them out with a spoon and transfer them to a cup with some water. On the spoon there is no water at all cause it is drained so I want to know how long they can survive out of water. I also need some tips on how to change the water. Thanks for the help…….

You could just take an empty cup and dunk it into the tank and scoop them into it. I would just drain out the water and put in some fresh bottled water. Don’t use tap.

About 12 to 48 hours.

Be sure to use distilled, deionized, or spring water. Keep the water between about 68 and 78F, and keep a bright light shining until they hatch (you can turn it out at night as long as you keep the water warm). Since you sloshed it around, take a RINSED AND DRIED spoon and wash any eggs that got stuck up on the edges back into the water.

I think that the more pure the water is, the faster they’ll hatch, due to osmotic pressure; if the temperature is low (like 65F), it will take longer also. With most tapwater, nothing will hatch. Remember that water will always be a few degrees cooler than room temperature unless it is heated (by a heater or lamp).

The shortest I’ve had to wait is 18 hours, and the longest is 36 hours. But sometimes larvae keep hatching even a couple days after the majority (after 5 days, for example). Something should hatch within 3 days, or you may have messed up somewhere. They are VERY VERY hard to see at first, though – about the size of an egg, but shaped like a teardrop with wings.

Seems like Triops have a fairly short lifespan, about 8 weeks or so. In those 8 weeks they’ll grow up, breed several times, and then die. So you’ll probably have adults in about 2 weeks. From what I’ve heard you can literally watch them grow in size, they hit a growth spurt after a few days and go crazy.

I’ve gotta get my Triops kit set up sometime. They sound like fun.

Here it is, I found the awesome website I came across the other day. If you’ve got the time and interest, bounce through here and check out the info: http://mytriops.com/ It’s rather interesting.
