animals and plants to put into a large closed ecosystem? bottle biology, must be both aquatic and terrestrial?

Question by Chris B: animals and plants to put into a large closed ecosystem? bottle biology, must be both aquatic and terrestrial?
it would be made up of 10 2Litre coke bottles and maybe a couple of the old mason jars if i can get them. bottles will be connected by pvc pipe to allow animals to go between sections.
must have both aquatic and terrestrial
must have both plants and animals living in each section

current ideas:
Aquatic
use 60% as aquatic
using elodea for oxygen production
using whatever small animals come in the water from the pond as well as to get bacteria?
guppies or maybe a goldfish to create waste for nutrients for plants? (what plants should i use?)
possibly cheat the animal for both sections using small frogs from the pond?
maybe triops or shrimp
snails to eat algae

Terrestrial
what plants should I use?
types of insects?

suggestions?
thanks

Stick with simple plants. Add some compost for bacteria and fungi. Set it all up with the lids off for a week or more. Use what stays/arrives. It will probably not gain stability, so don’t fret if it cycles out of control and crashes.

Hornwort or eloda plants for my tank?

Question by ???: Hornwort or eloda plants for my tank?
Which plant is best for my 10 gallon tank filled with Triops Longicaudatus?
Which is more edible for the triops? (im not saying this will be their main foodsource, but rather a salad bar for them when i am unable to feed them, like when i am at school)
Will any of these outgrow my 10 gallon tank? if so, how can i trim them? can i replant trimmings?

will either of these make my tank cleaner? dirtier?

how can i plant them? i know hornwort is a floating plant but i have no idea what that means

10 gallon tank freshwater plants?

Question by ???: 10 gallon tank freshwater plants?
should i put an Eloda plant, an Anubias plant, or something else in my 10 gallon tank?

My Triops Longicaudatus will be eating these plants from time to time, so they must be somewhat edible

Plants for freshwater aquarium?

Question by ???: Plants for freshwater aquarium?
I was thinking about adding some plants to my 10 gallon aquarium, primarily just to make it look nicer, and also for my Triops generations to feed on if they ever need to.

any good suggestions freshwater plants? How can i plant them in sand and keep them alive?

Will adding plants to my tank increase the water clarity, or make it dirtier?

Amazon Swords or any other varietal of Sword Plants are hardy and easy. Anubias is another easy one. Some hornwort or java fern also grow quickly and create nice hiding spots for security. They should do fine in sand buried up to the top of the root stem. (hornwort is a floating plant.) You can buy a liquid fertilizer at your local fish store to help them grow.
They will help to keep the water clear as well. be sure to time the lighting consistently 8-12 hours each day.

What kind of plants are okay with triops?

Question by tellcant59: What kind of plants are okay with triops?
I have some triops and i am going to put them in a 5 gallon tank. I just used the one that came with the kit to raise them. What kind of plant could i put in with my triops? I heard it puts extra oxygen in the water and they can eat it. And also if i used an under gravel filter with sand would i still have to clean the tank every week? Thanks alot

wow, i havent had triops in a long time.’

i think an airstone would be your best bet instead of plants since you cant be certain what plants come from where they came from.

an undergravel filter would cut down on tank cleaning later in their life cycle, triops start out real small, so an undergravel filter might suck them in and kill them, but when they get bigger i see no problem with it
