Whats wrong with my triop?

Question by Princess: Whats wrong with my triop?
So Monkey(my triop) is about 6 days old. She is swimming around like crazy! I gave her a small boiled potato cube to nibble on and she is on and off of it(I took it out cause i thought that might be her problem). Did she over eat and thats what is making her swim like crazy or is it just a phase that small triops go through. also when she realized her potato was taken out, she will swim around even more than before! She will go to the spot where i had her potato and dig around there… i think she misses it.

All you need is a 10 gallon glass tank with water with no chlorine. A lamp on for 12 hours of the day (any it doesn’t matter) If you add some live plants they will eat them, along with their normal good. You don’t need deco really but it could make them stuck, I’d stick with the plants and sand, and finally you could get a few snails. I’m pretty sure you can use any sand… I would go with aquarium sand just to be safe.

P.S I kept my triops in a 10 gallon tank with a pleco and some snails. They had aquarium sand and some plants. Now I only have my pleco who is now 4 years old in my 70 gallon tank XD

Good luck

What’s a good size habitat for Triops?

Question by Stephen: What’s a good size habitat for Triops?
I bought some Triops on eBay, and I don’t know what a good size habitat for them is. I was planning on buying one from a Pet store.

The container is perfect except that I’m not sure the size is enough. Everyone says the depth isn’t nearly as important as the length and width.

It’s 6″x9.2″x6.6″ (6 liters) (4.6 Square feet)

Is that big enough?

Also, if that’s too big (or bigger than it needs to be) how about:

4.4″x7.13″x5.5″ (2.8 liters) (2.6 square feet)
UPDATE;

I just read some guides, and most say to add NO MORE than a liter of water. If I got with the larger container, I could only fill it a little over one inch of water at the MOST, which seems too shallow to me. Thoughts?
If you think I should hatch them in a small container (like a cup), and then transplant them, when do I move them, and to which container? Most guides say wait until Day 8 (when they are big enough to move), what do you think?

Also, should they be moved to the bigger container of the two I listed?

We sometimes hatch them out in clear plastic drink cups with a couple inches, 3-4 cm, of water and a bit of sand, then move them to partly filled ten gallon aquariums for growth and breeding, sorting them out from other hatching animals such as clam shrimp and fairy shrimp, and in Triops species with sexes, picking out pairs for breeding. Container size is not important for hatching, but for feeding, growth, and laying eggs, larger containers will be needed.

whats the secret to raising triops (aquasaurs)?

Question by Helen: whats the secret to raising triops (aquasaurs)?
ok i have tried to hatch and raise aquasaurs (triops) i successfully hatched and raised 6 only for them to die, it says on all the sale websites of these all you need is a lamp over the tanks to keep the water raised between 70 to 80 degrees, which means leaving on all the time i suppose, i had a glass tank with a water heater in that you can get for tropical fish, as the lamp was not keeping the water a steady temaperature it would raise when heating was on in the house and drop over night. i used bottled water as suggested, on asking some aquatic centres they say they only live about a couple of weeks, others say up to 90 days. i have read these are easy to keep, it was hard work and quite expensive for heaters and water ect. i now have guppies in my fish tank by the way when i gave up but i would like to try again

What’s in my Triops tank?

Question by Quantum11: What’s in my Triops tank?
The eggs have been in the tank for about 3-4 days now, and there are some largish things swimming beneath the surface, they look a bit like daphnia. There are also the tiniest specks swimming on the surface of the water.. what are these? I would take a photo but they are too tiny to capture. Anyone got any ideas? Could they be baby Triops?

Here’s a video showing one day old triops, which might help you. Triops swim a lot faster than daphnia and have a tail.
